A few words on Wednesday : A Levon Update and Duffy and Wilhelmina on the rocks.

Levon Update : Thank you for all your kind and supportive comments on yesterday's post. They were very much appreciated! The test results came in and Levon's blood work was good and nothing was found in the x-rays (taken in case he ingested something). Our vet believes that Levon could be having an adverse reaction to his new food. The bleeding was caused by excessive vomiting which would in turn irritate the stomach walls. A few of you suggested this very thing to me yesterday and I am grateful to you as my imagination is great and I was already running with gruesome and torturous stomach cancer and imminent death! Thanks again to all of you. You are the best!

Levon , "Geesh that LP is a worrier. I need to take a nap to get away from all the drama! "

  1. I'm so relieved that nothing bad was found with the tests they did on Levon! I hope he is 100% soon, if he isn't already.

  2. Oh, we're sorry we missed the post about Levon, but are glad there's nothing untoward. I had problems with Nicki vomiting blood for most of the summer, finally bought some slippery elm bark powder from a natural foods store and boiled it up, gave a bit of it mixed in his food for a couple of weeks. That seemed to do the trick, but I expect it'll be the same this year, as Nicki eats the grass and nibbles on the plants (one in particular that I'll be digging up, finally, this spring, and removing).

So fingers and paws crossed for Levon that he's fine from here on in!

BTW, the slipper elm recipe is:

    Stovetop Method
Sprinkle 1 to 1.5 tsp of slippery elm bark powder onto one cup of cold water. If you are using slippery elm bark from capsules, you need pure slippery elm bark with no fillers, otherwise the syrup will usually not thicken properly. [Note: I tried the stuff in capsules first, didn't work for me, best to get the loose stuff.]

Let it sit until the powder is damp, then bring to the boil stirring constantly. Use a stainless steel or heat-proof glass pan, not an aluminium or non-stick one. Reduce the heat and simmer, still stirring constantly, until it thickens, about 3 minutes or so. It will be the consistency of watery egg whites. [The consistency is gross! LOL.]

Allow to cool and give ¼ - ½ (0.25 to 0.5) teaspoon up to 4 times a day. This will keep at room temperature for a day or in the fridge for up to five days.

  10. Ohhh I'm so glad Levon is OK! It's really scary to see blood - I would imagine the worst thing if I see it, too. But I'm so relieved it may be just due to reaction to his new food.
Love the photos of Wilhelmina and Duffy. The last picture is really cute!
