The Best Gift.

As some of you may know , we lost our Choo-Choo , Leopold Lion Heart , last August. I believe he was special to me in ways that are difficult to explain in words. Maybe that is because words, at times, without meaning to, can trivialize feelings or heartfelt experiences.

Children are permitted to love pets in an almost scandalous, exaggerated fashion, but we as adults, are often groomed to reign in our feelings as pets become secondary to presumed as more important, adult exchanges and experiences.

I hope the child in me continues to always recognize the kindred spirit that can be found in an animal. I hope that I forevermore and a day after that, always allow my feelings for that spirit to flourish! I would never want to become comfortably numb to the beauty of an animal gazing into my eyes with complete trust and acceptance.

People say that when you save an animal, the animal in fact ends up saving you. That may be true , although I am not certain I or anyone for that matter, could ever truly be saved, from life anyway. I do know that Leo was my shelter from the storm in the years that he found refuge here. I know he brought peace, a certain healing stillness, and tranquility to my life. I will always be grateful to him for that.

My sister Dominique , painted a portrait of Leo as a Christmas gift to me. It is the best gift because it brings me joy.

 Thank you Dominique.

Have a Wonderful Day.
The New Year and its' many possibilities is almost upon us!
See you soon.

  1. Wow, what a wonderful gift! My human loves us kitties more than she loves the human relatives in her life. That's a fact.

  2. Oh, the portrait is beautiful, what a lovely gift.

I know Annie and Chumley saved me from following through on my thoughts of suicide (for years), because they gave me a reason to get up and out of bed and to keep going. I never would have left them. And while I'm--fortunately--not in that same dark place anymore, Nicki and Derry still give me a focus, a reason to keep going when I've no human family here.

So for me, my four-legged companions aren't secondary at all, and I frankly don't have a lot of tolerance for people who share their lives with non-human beings, but consider them as mere "pets," easily replaceable.

And my soulmates? Two horses. My angels? Annie and Chum. No humans in there at all.

Purrs and peace to you all for a wonderful new year, may it bring good health, Light, love and laughter. :-)

  4. Leo went straight to my heart in truth. I feel in love with him as you let us learn of him. I grieved when he passed. I still remember him. I will say here that I feel the same about my cats who have passed. They were loved deeply and loved us back just as much. I will never deny that deep love I had and have, I was very happy to read this in your blog.

  10. What a beautiful portrait of Leo your sister made for you. The child in you will always be there inside of you. So you can love your kitties as you wish. My kitties are my furbabies, since my husband and I never had children. They are my pride and joy, you may even say my soul. Always love those that have past, they will guide you all of your days.
