Cedric in a box .

LP, " Cedric lives in this box for six months of the year , in my sister's closet in California. It is where he essentially hibernates ."

LP , " Cedric is a desert tortoise who wandered into my sister's yard around ten years ago. He had been someone's pet . The unfortunate thing (and there are many evidently) about keeping wild animals as domestic pets is that they usually cannot be returned to the wild. That is the case with Cedric. Were he returned to the wild , he would transmit a virus that could be deadly to his wild counterparts. Cedric is registered with proper officials who kow exactly where he is and how he is doing. And he is doing very well with my sister and her family. He is now twenty-five years old .This is very young for a desert tortoise as they can live longer than eighty years."

LP, " Here are a few pics of Cedric I took during the summer months when he is out of hibernation. Although desert tortoises are typically solitary animals , Cedric actually seems to like people and will come out to greet you when you enter his outdoor pen  ."

LP, " Cedric dines on mulberry leaves and Nepal cacti found in my sister's backyard. He also eats fruits and various greens. I think Cedric is a fascinating creature and I appreciate being able to fraternise with him. We hope you have enjoyed meeting one of our sunny California cousins! "

Have a great day!
See you soon.

P.S. The partly striped animal on yesterday's post is called an Okapi. It is part of the giraffe family and is one of my sister's favourite animals.
